The Beef Bowl, an annual event at Lawry's The Prime Rib in Beverly Hills, pits the Rose Bowl contestants against each other in a battle to see which team can consume the most prime rib. The team that eats the most meat has gone on to win the Rose Bowl 71 percent of the time, Lawry's general manager Gina Doyle told the Los Angeles Times.
In that case, lay your money down on the Badgers.
Wisconsin, which takes on Oregon on Monday, devoured 723 pounds of prime rib to the Ducks' measely 612, walked away — or had to be rolled away — with the crown at the Beef Bowl. Heavy amounts of red meat before severe physical exertion sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen, but apparently the cardiological danger is worth the price of tradition.
Wisconsin offensive lineman Travis Frederick ate eight pieces of 13-ounce prime rib, according to the Times. But Oregon offensive lineman Mark Asper made the biggest headlines, performing the Heimlich maneuver on a choking man.
