The tragedy of last week's shooting in Aurora, Colo., that left 12 dead did not escape the hometown team.

The Denver Nuggets, who play less than 15 miles away from the Century 16 cinema where James E. Holmes allegedly opened fire in a crowded movie theater, honored the victims by donning black headbands during their summer league game on Saturday.

"It was tragic," Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried told NBA.com. "It was just terrible for everybody. Even though we don't live in Colorado, we represent the Denver Nuggets."

"We gave prayers and blessings out to the families, and we wished the best for everybody," Faried said.

Holmes, 24, appeared in court Monday for the first time. He is being held in connection with the Thursday shooting during a showing of The Dark Knight Rises that left 12 dead and 58 wounded.
