London Summer Olympics Using Strange, Alien-Looking Mascots

A mascot is used not only to entertain crowds but also to stand as a symbol for a team. So, by that logic, the Olympics may be made up of aliens.

The mascots, which are supposed to capture the spirit of the Olympic Games, are supposed to look like droplets of steel left over from building the main Olympic stadium, according to Iris, the design agency behind the frightening creatures. They symbolize the United Kingdom's Industrial Revolution, the Washington Post explains.

The two droplets of steel are named Wenlock (after the town that inspired the modern Olympic Games) and Mandeville (after the town that founded the Paralympics).

Regardless of their background, this much is sure: The two mascots are very strange-looking creatures. Check them out in the photo below.
