Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes thunder apparently.
The thunder was doing a lot more than rolling on Sunday afternoon in Arlington, as a bolt of lightning and a deafening thunder clap had the Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins scurrying for coverage in the middle of a game.
In the top of the fourth inning, lightning struck somewhere very close to Rangers Ballpark, and the ensuing crash of thunder spooked a handful of professional athletes. The game immediately came to an impromptu halt as the bang led some of the players to dash off the field, favoring the safety of the dugout instead.
The award for best reaction, however, has to go to Twins outfielder Josh Willingham. Taking a lead off of first base when the lightning struck, Willingham’s first instinct was to hit the deck and go to all fours. Upon realizing that he had all of his body parts still and a nuclear holocaust had not begun, Willingham got up and hightailed it off the field.
