If anybody was wondering if Melky Cabrera‘s incredible season was perhaps a bit too good to be true, they may have been on to something.

The star San Francisco Giants outfielder was suspended 50 games for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy Wednesday after testing positive for testosterone. The suspension was announced by MLB on Twitter.

Cabrera is the fourth major league player to be suspended for violating the policy this year, as Giants teammate Guillermo Mota was hit with a 100-game suspension in May after testing positive for Clenbuterol. Marlon Byrd and Freddy Galvis have also been suspended 50 games this year.

Cabrera was quoted in a later tweet from MLB, adopting a contrite tone following the announcement of his suspension.

Cabrera, who was the MVP of the All-Star Game earlier this year, was enjoying a sensational first year with the Giants. At the time of his suspension, he was second in the National League with a .346 batting average and led the league in runs scored with 84.
