Tuesday’s Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees game was delayed for several minutes not by a passing Florida thunderstorm, but rather by a visiting swarm of bees.
The insects descended on left field at the Yankees’ Steinbrenner Field during the bottom of the third inning, prompting Mike Carp to flee his outfield post in search of safer ground.
The Yankees’ grounds crew eventually dispersed the swarm — with no help from Mark Teixeira, who offered up two jars of honey — and Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli immediately sent Carp right back into the danger zone by roping a triple off the left field wall.
