Vitor FaveraniWALTHAM, Mass. — Vitor Faverani did not join his Boston Celtics teammates when they took the court Wednesday for the second day of training camp.

Faverani, who practiced on a limited basis Tuesday, was held out of practice and underwent an MRI after experiencing swelling in his surgically repaired left knee, according to head coach Brad Stevens.

“He doesn’t feel like it’s an insurmountable amount of pain,” Stevens said before the team’s second practice session Wednesday. “It’s just that he’s got a lot more swelling that he had hoped. And probably not too atypical for going two-a-days — or at least parts of two-a-days — (Tuesday).”

Joel Anthony also did not participate in the contact portion of practice as he recovers from a strained groin.

Faverani averaged 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds over 37 games as a rookie last season.

UPDATE (12:55 p.m. Thursday): Stevens offered a correction Thursday to his earlier statement, saying that Faverani did practice Wednesday but was limited.
