It’s the first time since 1987 that Aston Villa has been relegated. It’s safe to say Villa were not expected to finish 20th out of 20 EPL clubs this season.
Aston Villa had the exact same odds as Leicester City (+250) to be relegated from the EPL this season, and were +1200 to finish dead last.

Villa’s fate has been sealed despite four games remaining on the league schedule. The club has a 3-7-24 record and a league-worst minus-45 goal differential. Villa’s 16 points are 12 below 19th-place Newcastle United.
Sunderland also is in the relegation zone in 18th place, but its win over Norwich City has brought it one point from safety.
