Boston’s bullpen has been taxed over the last four games or so, and the Red Sox made a move for some pitching depth.

The Red Sox recalled right-hander William Cuevas from Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday prior to the game against the Texas Rangers. Cuevas is a starter with the PawSox but he fills a long reliever role with Boston. The 25-year-old made one appearance for the Red Sox this season, his major league debut on April 21, in which he gave up two runs on three hits over 2 1/3 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays.

To make room for Cuevas, the Red Sox optioned infielder Deven Marrero to Pawtucket. Boston recalled Marrero on June 18, and he appeared in four games, starting in one and going 1-for-7.
