The San Antonio Spurs missed out on superstar free agent Kevin Durant, but it appears they will sign second-tier free agent Pau Gasol.
To make room under the salary cap for the veteran power forward, the Spurs will trade center Boris Diaw to the Utah Jazz, per Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.

Jazz sending rights to 2015 second-round pick Olivier Hanlan, who played overseas last year. Deal allows the Spurs space to sign Pau Gasol.

This move makes sense. Gasol is better than Diaw and capable of playing center in addition to power forward. Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge will make a fantastic frontcourt duo.
Diaw averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last season. He spent four-and-a-half seasons with San Antonio and was part of its 2014 NBA Finals-winning team. The Jazz will be his fifth team since joining the league in 2003-04.
