The rumor mill was overflooded this week with speculation that Louisiana State University would move on from head coach Les Miles, who has overseen the football program for 11 seasons.

After LSU’s 19-7 Senior Day victory over Texas A&M on Saturday, LSU vice chancellor and athletic director Joe Alleva took the podium to announce that Miles would be returning for another season.

The announcement ended a whirlwind day for Miles, who knew Saturday could have been his final game as LSU coach.

Miles shook off an on-field interview for a minute to take in the celebration with his players and sing LSU’s Alma Mater.

Miles accepted the interview after the song ended while fans chanted his name. He was then carried off the field by his players.

Miles was asked in his postgame press conference what it was like being carried off the field in the midst of all the emotion. Miles had a bit of fun, admitting that it was scary because his players were so tall.

Miles told the media he found out he was staying as coach from LSU president F. King Alexander, who met Miles in the tunnel after he came off the field and told the coach “he wanted me to be the coach.”

LSU has the top-ranked recruiting class for 2016 with 13 players ranked in the top 300, three more than any other team.
