The World Cup of Hockey is back for the first time since 1996, and it should provide hockey fans with plenty of exciting and competitive international play before the 2016-17 NHL seasons begins in October.

Eight teams are split into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to a single-elimination playoff. The top team from Group A will play the Group B runner-up in one semifinal, and the Group B winner will play the Group A runner-up in the other semifinal.

The semifinal winners will square off in a best-of-three final.
