Pierce Possibly Facing Punishment From NFL

Though his situation may not be as dire as that of his former teammate Plaxico Burress, linebacker Antonio Pierce's future is just as uncertain.

The 30-year-old, who was with Burress on the night he accidentally shot himself in the leg, could be facing charges in the case for allegedly taking the gun from the scene to New Jersey, the New York Daily News reports.

Earlier in the week, Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau told the New York Post — reportedly "with a smile" — that he "wouldn't get into" whether or not Burress was the only person possibly facing gun-possession charges.

If Pierce is indeed charged, he could face a suspension or a fine.

The NFL league office was quiet on the situation, with spokesman Greg Aiello telling the Daily News, "We will follow developments in the case. We have no other comment at this time."

According to the report, a formal charge would not be required for Pierce to face discipline from the league, as commissioner Roger Goodell "can take action even without charges or a conviction."
