Just as it seemed the Phillies were closing in on landing Roy Halladay, the team snagged a different Cy Young Award winner.
The Phillies have officially traded four minor leaguers in exchange for Indians starter Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco, according to ESPN.com.
The crop of players heading to the Indians organization does not include J.A. Happ, Kyle Drabek or Dominic Brown — three players the Blue Jays were asking for in exchange for Halladay. Instead, the Phils are sending Single-A pitcher Jason Knapp, Triple-A righty Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson.
Lee's 7-9 record doesn't match his 3.14 ERA. He's pitched 152 innings this year, striking out 107 batters while walking just 33. Last year, he went 22-3 with a 2.54 ERA on his way to winning the American League Cy Young Award.
