On a day when the New York Yankees celebrated their illustrious past with the 63rd Old-Timer's Day at Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Bombers completed a sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 2-1 win.

In his first start since the All-Star break, Joba Chamberlain was pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits for his fifth win of the season. Chamberlain struck out eight and walked three on 107 pitches with his only mistake being a solo home run allowed to Clete Thomas in the fourth inning.

The Yankees were only able to plate two runs against Tigers starter and All-Star Edwin Jackson, but that is all they would need behind Chamberlain's strong outing. Jackson lasted seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. Both runs came from homers produced by the heart of the Yankees order.

Alex Rodriguez got the Yankees on the board and tied the game at one in the fourth inning with his 19th home run of the season, and Mark Teixeira gave the Yankees the lead for good with his 23rd blast in the sixth inning.

Joe Girardi turned to his bullpen with two outs in the seventh as Phil Coke replaced Chamberlain to face Curtis Granderson, needing just one pitch to retire the Tigers leadoff hitter.

Phil Hughes took over in the eighth inning and extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 16 2/3 innings with a two-strikeout performance.

And in the ninth Mariano Rivera did his usual, retiring the Tigers on 14 pitches for his 26th save in 27 chances this season.
