Lakers center Pau Gasol will be sidelined for at least three weeks after undergoing surgery on his left index finger. He injured the finger while practicing with Spain's national team.
Gasol damaged a ligament in the finger on Monday blocking a shot in practice, the Spanish basketball federation said. He will wear a splint for 20 days, but it is not clear if he will play in the European Championship in Poland that starts Sept. 7.
Gasol's agent, Arn Tellem, told the Lakers that there were no issues with the surgery, according to The Los Angeles Times. Gasol said he has spoken with the Lakers and and expects to get approval to play with the national team.
