In about two weeks, Bruins winger Milan Lucic will be heading east from his parents' Vancouver home to embark on the first leg of one of his childhood dreams.
Lucic, who is spending time in his hometown of Vancouver, is one of 25 Canadian forwards to be invited to the Team Canada Orientation Camp on Aug. 24 in Calgary. Making the 2010 Olympics would be a dream come true for Lucic, especially because the Games almost literally in his backyard of Vancouver.
“I had a big smile on my face, especially considering the dream of being in the Olympics and [having it hosted by] your hometown," Lucic told John Bishop of BostonBruins.com. "It’s a huge honor for me and I’m going to make the most of it and have some fun.”
While Lucic is excited for the big opportunity, he still knows that the Black and Gold are his main priority.
“Well, I think you've got to keep it in the back of your head, because
the most important thing going into the season is your NHL team,” said
Lucic. “But, obviously, when I got the call I was really, really
excited."
Before the big winger made his way home this summer, he made a quick stop in Mexico to take in some sun and activities not typically found in Boston.
“When the season was over, I went to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico for two weeks,” he said. “I went there and learned about the Mayans and saw Chichén Itzá — I thought that was really cool. I also swam with dolphins, which was pretty cool, too.”
