The Mets are 16 1/2 games out of first place in the NL East. It may be time for the them to start thinking about the future. More specifically, it may be time for shortstop Jose Reyes to decide how he wants to proceed after tearing his right hamstring earlier this season.

The two-time All-Star may require surgery to repair the hamstring, according to ESPN.com. He has been on the disabled list since May and has been doing physical therapy since.

In 36 games in 2009, Reyes batted .279. Throughout his seven-year career, he has accumulated a .286 average with 63 homers and 325 RBIs. His best season came in 2006, when he batted .300 with 19 homers and 81 RBIs and was elected to his first All-Star Game.

In brighter news, ESPN.com reports that David Wright could be activated from the DL on Tuesday after suffering a concussion when he was hit in the head with a pitch earlier this month.
