Report: Red Sox Never Placed Claim on Guzman Contrary to an earlier report in The Boston Globe, the Red Sox did not put a waiver claim on Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman, MLB.com reports.

The 31-year-old officially cleared waivers on Monday and won't be traded to the Red Sox, according to the report.

A source told MLB.com that the Nationals were upset with the report that the Sox had placed a claim on Guzman.

"Guzman was on eggshells for two days asking [acting general manager Mike Rizzo] whether or not he was going to be traded," the source said. "That story should have never came out."
