The Knicks have unsuccessfully tried to lure several veterans to Broadway this offseason, and now they will see if Jerry Stackhouse is in a New York state of mind.
According to ESPN.com, Stackhouse is expected to meet with team officials from the Knicks on Thursday and work out at the team's practice facility.
A two-time All-Star, Stackhouse became an unrestricted free agent after
the Grizzlies bought out the final year of his contract for $2 million
last month. The Grizzlies acquired him from the Mavericks in the
four-team trade that included Shawn Marion and Hedo Turkoglu.
Stackhouse played just 10 games for the Mavericks last season, but owns an average of 18.4 points per game in his 14-year career.
The Knicks have been targeting players they can acquire with one-year deals to open up as much salary cap space as possible for the highly coveted free-agent class of 2010. The Knicks are expected to make a run at some of the league's biggest names next summer, prior to the 2010-11 season.
