Since Victor Martinez's arrival in Boston, the Red Sox lineup has looked completely different with runs seemingly coming in bunches. The emergence of a true No. 3 hitter in the order has taken the pressure off some of the other big bats in the Red Sox offense and by doing so it has increased run production.

With Martinez taking over the everyday catching duties and also filling in at first base on days when Jason Varitek is behind the plate, the Red Sox added a key component to their roster for the remainder of the 2009 season and the future. But just how long that future will be is up in the air, though Martinez hopes his time is Boston is extended.

When asked by WEEI.com if he would like to discuss a contract extension with the Red Sox, Martinez said, “Definitely,”

“Who wouldn’t want to play here in Boston?" Martinez told WEEI.com. "It’s up to them, but from my side, I would want to stay here.

In 24 games with the Red Sox, Martinez is hitting .313 with five home runs and 18 RBIs. He has five doubles and 14 runs to go along with a .385 on-base percentage.

“Hopefully they want to do something," Martinez told WEEI.com. "I would be more than happy to sit down and talk."
