Wakefield Gives up Two Runs in Rehab Start

Tim Wakefield took a step toward recovery Saturday night, pitching in a rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Wakefield pitched 3 2/3 innings against the Gwinnett Braves, giving up two earned runs on three hits, one walk and one hit batter with three strikeouts. Perhaps as a sign of rust, Wakefield also had a balk.

In total, Wakefield threw 63 pitches, 40 for strikes. The runs came in the second inning, and Wakefield responded with a 1-2-3 third inning. He retired the first two batters of the fourth inning before being lifted by manager Ron Johnson.

Catcher George Kottaras also played in the game, going 0-for-1 with two walks and a strikeout.
