The Texas Rangers have lost a pair of All-Stars this past week in Josh Hamilton and Michael Young, but Ron Washington's squad will be blessed with a former All-Star in Andruw Jones, who is set to come off the disabled list for Tuesday's doubleheader in Cleveland.
Jones returns to the team for the first time since Aug. 24 when he was shelved with a strained left hamstring. Hamilton and Young (pulled left hamstring) will not be playing in the Indians series.
"He's that right-handed bat we need against
left-handers," Washington told the Associated Press. "Teams want to stack lefties
against us and we've been without him for a while. It's nice to get him back,
and hopefully he'll give us a lift."
In 74 games before the injury, the 32-year-old hit .217 with 17 homers and 41
RBIs in his first season in the AL. In three rehab games with Double-A Frisco, the five-time All-Star went 2-for-9.
Prior to Tuesday night's game, the Rangers trailed the Red Sox by 2 1/2 games for the wild card lead.
