I live in a neighborhood in Boston that has literally been invaded by Hollywood.
I came home one day this summer to find that the dry cleaners across the street had been turned into a flower shop. At first I was excited, thinking that a friendly florist would be a great addition to my neighborhood. Then I saw Donnie Wahlberg standing at its entrance, and a bunch of camera crews crowded around, and I realized that this florist was a figment of Hollywood's imagination. Cameron Diaz is now my neighbor, filming her upcoming film Wichita. I am just waiting for Tom Cruise to move onto my block and tell me how great the Patriots are doing.
This brings me to my next point. Could there be anywhere else in the country you'd rather be right now than Boston?
Hollywood stars are noticing our beautiful city. And they are also taking part in the many sporting events that encompass the great culture that makes Beantown what it is. The Red Sox are gearing up for a postseason run, the Bruins will come out of hibernation on Thursday, the Patriots recently turned the corner in their victory against Atlanta and Kevin Garnett told the media on Monday that he's ready to go.
It's a no-brainer. There isn't anywhere else I'd rather be. And if you're a sports fan in New England, I think you'd agree.
Thursday night, the Bruins drop the puck on their new season. None other than Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals will be skating into town.
Sunday afternoon, Tom Brady and the Patriots will look to string together consecutive wins for the first time this year when Ray Lewis and the Ravens invade Foxborough. Bring it!
And on Sunday, the Red Sox will wrap up the regular season and begin their quest for another World Series title. (Now can they just get past those pesky Blue Jays!?)
Over the next nine months, you'll see my blog posts focus mostly on the Bruins and Patriots, but right now, I'm all about singing Boston's praises. Don't get me wrong, you might be able to pull me away for about 24 hours on a private jet to the Caribbean. But you better make sure I'm back in time for the 7 p.m. puck drop on Thursday. Because it's the start of another great weekend, and season, in Boston.
