Mostly known for his speed around the bases and glove in the outfield, Ellsbury has been a key component of the Red Sox offense recently. And it’s no coincidence that the Red Sox are 7-1 in their last eight games with Ellsbury heating up at the plate.
Over those eight games, Ellsbury is 14-for-35 (.400) with four doubles, three triples, five RBIs and six runs scored. His averaged has climbed over .300 to .301 with six multi-hit games in that stretch, and his play has helped the Red Sox extend their lead in the wild card to 3 1/2 games over the Rangers.
