The Red Sox recalled right-hander Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket prior to Saturday's game against Chicago. Bowden will wear No. 64 and will be available to pitch against the White Sox.

This marks the young hurler's second stint with Boston in 2009. After submitting one perfect outing in April against New York — he went two innings with two strikeouts — Bowden struggled in a relief appearance against the Yankees on Aug. 21. He allowed seven runs on eight hits in two innings and watched his ERA baloon to 15.75.

In 24 starts with Pawtucket in 2009, Bowden went 4-6 with a 3.13 ERA in 126 1/3 innings. Throughout his final four starts, he went 1-1 with a 1.96 ERA.

Bowden was selected in the supplemental round of the 2005 draft. He has made three career appearances in the major leagues.
