Urlacher Says Season Is Over

Shortly after the Chicago Bears and their fans felt the thrill of an opening kickoff to a new season, they were harshly reminded that football is a cruel, cruel game.

The Bears' defensive co-captain and six-time Pro Bowler Brian Urlacher will miss the remainder of the season after injuring his wrist in the first quarter of Sunday night's opening night loss in Green Bay, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Urlacher told the newspaper via text message that his "season is over," and head coach Lovie Smith is expected to address the injury at an afternoon news conference.

The injury is a dislocated right wrist, and Urlacher reportedly underwent surgery Monday morning to place a bone back in his wrist.

Urlacher, the 2006 Defensive Player of the Year, has played all 16 games in all but one of his nine seasons.
