Former BU Captain Matt Gilroy Scores First NHL Goal

It only took Matt Gilroy three games to score his first career NHL goal, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

The former Boston University captain and current Rangers defenseman netted the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner on the road against the rival New Jersey Devils at 17:50 of the second period on Monday. Marian Gaborik and Vinny Prospal assisted on the goal, as the Rangers went on to win 3-2 to take the division matchup.

Gilroy led the Terriers to the national championship last season in his senior year at Boston University. The North Bellmore, N.Y., native went undrafted and signed a two-year deal worth $3.5 million with the Rangers on April 17, 2009.
