George Steinbrenner Will Attend Game 1 of World Series at Yankee Stadium

The New York Yankees might not need any help, but the fans at the stadium will get an emotional boost Wednesday night as owner George Steinbrenner will be in attendance.

Newsday.com reports that Steinbrenner, 79, will "absolutely" be at Yankee Stadium for Game 1 of the World Series, according to his son Hal Steinbrenner.

"I think all these players are doing this for him," Hal told Newsday. "We want to win this whole thing for him. I think we feel like he's here being a big part of it."

Steinbrenner has not attended a game in the Bronx since the ballpark's first game in April. His health has declined in recent years, and it seems clear from Hal's comments that the moment is not being taken for granted by anyone.

"I can tell you he'll be excited to be here Wednesday night," Hal said. "That's for sure. It means a lot to him. It's been a lot of years. A lot of years."

George released the following statement on Monday, following the Yankees' win over the Angels in the ALDS.

"The Yankees’ enormous will to win, tremendous professionalism and great team spirit, backed by the best, most vocal and supportive fans have propelled us into the World Series. We’re looking forward to our 27th ring."
