Logan Mankins' late hit last Sunday cost the Patriots 15 yards, but it turned out to cost the offensive guard a bit more.
Mankins said on WEEI on Friday that the NFL fined him $5,000 for the hit.
The incident came early in the second quarter following a Kevin Faulk run to the Denver 38-yard line. The 15-yard penalty turned a potential 55-yard field goal attempt (Stephen Gostkowski hit a 53-yarder in the first quarter) into a punting situation.
Denver scored its first touchdown on the ensuing drive.
