Phillies May Ink Pedro Martinez For 2010

For most Red Sox fans, it’s been bitter-sweet watching Pedro Martinez do his thing this year on Philadelphia and helping his Phillies return to the World Series.

But fans who have enjoyed watching the rejuvenated 37-year-old (who will be 38 on Oct. 25) have his way with National League batters may get a second showing of the former Red Sox ace in 2010 as the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. has thought about bringing Martinez back.

“I don’t think Pedro has done anything to push us away from it,” Amaro said when asked if he would consider re-signing the righty.

Martinez, who went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in nine starts for the Phils this season, has 219 career wins in 18 professional seasons. From 1998-2004, Martinez went 117-37 with Boston while posting a 2.52 ERA and striking out 1,683 batters in 1,383 2/3 innings pitched.
