Rangers Sign Defenseman Alexei Semenov

It came down to the eve of the NHL season, but the Rangers finally inked free agent defenseman Alexei Semenov. Semenov and the Rangers agreed to terms on Wednesday just two days before the Rangers open the season against Pittsburgh.

Semenov, 28, agreed to a reported one-year deal worth $600,000. He had had two assists and was a plus-2 with 12 penalty minutes in six preseason games with the Rangers this season.

Last season, Semenov had eight points in 47 games with San Jose. In
211 career games with Edmonton, Florida and San
Jose, Semenov has seven goals and 26 assists.
