Late on Tuesday afternoon, the Yankees opted for the "A series" option in the American League Division Series, meaning they will play Game 1 against the Tigers or Twins on Wednesday. They will get a day off after Game 1, Game 2 and Game 4, which means they will be able to employ a three-man pitching rotation.
That leaves the "B series" for Boston. The Red Sox will kick things off against the Angels on Thursday night at 9:37 p.m. ET. They will play Game 2 on Friday at the same time, will take a day off on Saturday, and will play Game 3 on Sunday at Fenway Park. If necessary, Game 4 will be played on Monday in Boston and Game 5 will be played on Wednesday back in Anaheim.
The shorter series essentially forces the Red Sox to use a four-man pitching rotation unless they decide to pitch Game 1 starter Jon Lester on three days of rest instead of four, which is highly unlikely.
Manager Terry Francona has not yet finalized the team's ALDS roster.
