Doc Rivers: Paul Pierce ‘Shouldn’t Have Played’ Against Pacers

Last weekend was one Celtics fans will be very eager to forget.

The team that some believed could win 82 games this year — facetiously or not — lost two in a row to Atlanta and Indiana. And now the Celtics could be looking to rebound on Wednesday against Golden State without the assistance of captain Paul Pierce.

On Monday, Celtics head coach Doc Rivers told Boston.com he "shouldn't have played" the forward during Saturday's 113-104 loss at Indiana after he injured himself against Atlanta on Friday.

"He talked me into it," Rivers added.

Pierce sprained his left knee against the Hawks and practiced briefly on Monday. He will be held out of Tuesday's practice and may not play on Wednesday against the Warriors.

After the captain participated in agility drills on Monday, he worked out on a stationary bike while the rest of the team scrimmaged and then had his knee taped in the locker room.

In 11 games this season, Pierce has averaged 18.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 34.5 minutes.
