If Jason Bay and Billy Wagner don't return to the Red Sox in 2010, the club will at least be compensated for the departure of the left fielder and left-handed reliever. The MLB Players Association has listed both Bay and Wagner as Type A free agents, The Boston Globe reports.

Should Bay and Wagner sign with another team this offseason, the Red Sox would receive two draft picks for each player that does not return to the team. The Red Sox would be compensated with the first-round pick of the player's new team as well as a "sandwich" pick at the end of the first round of the draft.

Jason Varitek was listed as a Type B free agent and would bring the Red Sox a secondary first-round pick if he were to sign with another club this offseason.

Other free agents, Rocco Baldelli, Paul Byrd, Alex Gonzalez and Chris Woodward are unranked and the Red Sox would not be compensated for them signing with a new team.
