Bills Respond to Rumors About Michael Vick Coming to Town

Remember when Michael Vick hit the open market this summer and "sources" claimed that several NFL teams were considering signing him?

The source wasn't lying.

On Sunday night, Tony Dungy — Vick's adviser — revealed that the Bills were interested in acquiring Vick once he got out of prison and could still be interested now.

Although the Bills have both Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick, there's no harm in exploring the option of signing a former three-time Pro Bowler, right?

Maybe not.

When wide receiver Lee Evans was asked by ESPN.com if he thought Buffalo would consider signing the Eagles backup, he said, "Probably not. I love him as a player and everything that he's done for the league, but I don't think it'll be anything we aggressively go after."

Safety Donte Whitner wasn't on the same page.

"I believe that Michael Vick would be a good fit, and I would encourage whoever to bring Michael Vick in," he told the Web site.

While Edwards and Fitzpatrick have experienced less than stellar success with the 3-5 Bills this season, Vick presents an exciting possibility, and his playing time in Philadelphia has been scant. In six games, he has attempted six passes and accumulated six yards while rushing 12 times for 27 yards.

Edwards — who is expected to resume his starting role after missing two games with a concussion — isn't worried about job security.

"It's really out of my control," he said. "I feel like we've got our guys upstairs working those personnel moves, and if they feel like that's going to be the best fit for this team, and they feel that it's going to help us win football games, I'm sure they're going to do it without my opinion on it."
