Coming off a season in which he hit 36 home runs and drove in 119 runs for the Red Sox, you might think there would be a bit bigger market for Jason Bay.

Yet as the calendar is closing in on turning to 2010, Bay remains unemployed. That doesn't mean the Mets aren't trying.

Mets GM Omar Minaya, speaking at an event honoring Roberto Clemente, said the Mets are still hot in pursuit of Bay, according to New York Sports Day.

"We are pursuing Matt Holliday. It seems to be easier to make a deal for Jason Bay," Minaya said.

Despite Minaya's comments, it certainly hasn't seemed easy. The Mets reportedly offered Bay a four-year, $65 million contract on Dec. 10, yet there's been no reported progress between the team and Bay's agent, Joe Urbon.

Last week, NESN's Peter Gammons said on WEEI that the Red Sox are highly unlikely to re-sign Bay, even though a report surfaced earlier in the week that the Red Sox would consider increasing their budget to sign him.
