Considered a bubble player to make the Canadian Olympic roster, the 24-year-old was named to the team on Wednesday. The Quebec native will be playing in his first Olympics, in which the hockey will begin on Feb. 16 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Bergeron suffered a serious concussion in the 2007-08 season, missing 72 games. He returned last year but suffered yet another concussion on Dec. 20. He made it back to the lineup to finish the season and played in all 11 postseason games, registering five assists and posting a plus-3 rating. This season, he leads the Bruins with 29 points (10-19-29). He is the leading Bruins forward in power-play assists (5) and he leads the team in shorthanded points with one goal and one assist.
He lacks some of the skills of Vincent Lacavalier and Martin St. Louis, both of whom were left off the roster, but he brings a solid skill set to the Canadian team. With the Bruins, Bergeron has spent time on the first three lines, on the power play and on the penalty kill.

Bergeron won’t be the only Bruin to play in February. Fellow centerman David Krejci was named to the Czech Republic team, while Zdeno Chara has been named to the Slovakian team. Goaltender Tim Thomas is expected to have a good chance of making the United States team.
