Tim Thomas’ Winter Classic Mask Features Drawing of Fred Cusick

A historic game played by one of the NHL’s historic franchises in baseball’s most historic venue will certainly take a feel that is … well, historical.

As part of that celebration, Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas is honoring legendary Bruins broadcaster Fred Cusick on his mask.

The mask, which is the same model that Thomas wears on a regular basis, features Cusick’s likeness behind a yellow and black microphone, with “Fred Cusick” and “1918-2009” inscribed next to him. Click the photo below to see a larger image on the Bruins’ TwitPic page.

The team also unveiled the mask of Tuukka Rask, which features the same shade of green that can only be found at Fenway Park, as well as the classic Bruins logo. A larger version of that mask can also be seen by clicking the image below.

Cusick, who passed away this past November, announced Bruins games on television and radio for 45 years. A Boston native, Cusick was honored posthumously this year when the Bruins dedicated the television booth at the TD Garden to him, naming it the “Fred Cusick Broadcast Booth.”
