The Senators are a completely different team with their captain in the lineup. This is the Daniel Alfredsson Show here at TD Garden, as the Swedish star has a hat trick. The fiancee of Carrie Underwood, Mike Fisher, isn’t having a bad day either, with three helpers through two periods of play.
It's hard to really fault Tim Thomas for the Sens’ third goal, which led to him getting yanked in favor of Tuukka Rask. But Thomas, just like the rest of the team, looked flat in this one, and head coach Claude Julien must have been looking to light a spark under his team with the move. Unfortunately, no spark was lit and the Bruins are on the verge of suffering their first loss to their divisional rivals from Ottawa since last April.
One of Ottawa’s goals this past period was a power-play goal scored by Alfredsson. The power play came courtesy of Mark Recchi, who got called for elbowing and unsportsmanlike conduct. You know it’s a bad day when Recchi loses his cool and gets the extra two for unsportsmanlike conduct. Recchi is usually the buffer between players and referees, always serving as the voice of reason.
