Former Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees, who announced he was leaving the team Thursday, is expected to reunite with Josh McDaniels and become the defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, according to the Denver Post.
Pees and McDaniels worked together in New England for five years before McDaniels left to become the Broncos’ head coach last offseason. Their relationship goes much deeper than that, though, according to The Boston Globe.
Pees has known McDaniels’ father, Thom, for a long time and coached McDaniels’ brother, Ben, at Kent State. Before they worked together under Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Pees and McDaniels also worked together under Nick Saban, one of Belichick’s disciples, at Michigan State.
Denver’s defensive coordinator post was vacated when Mike Nolan resigned on Monday.
