Being a professional athlete in Boston has its perks, but to Dustin Pedroia, it doesn’t beat the thrill of being a dad.
Pedroia’s wife Kelli went into premature labor last July, and the Red Sox second baseman admits that her pregnancy was difficult, the Sacramento Bee reports. However, Kelli gave birth to a healthy son, and since then, things have been great for the Pedroia family.
"Things are so good right now," Pedroia told the Bee. "Last year was a tough year. Much better now."
Dylan Pedroia was born Aug. 18, one day after Dustin’s birthday. Now a father, Pedroia says the experience has changed his life.
“It's been the greatest thing," Pedroia told The Bee. "Having a baby really changes you. You feel so fortunate. I look at life differently. I feel more at ease, more laid-back, and I love the idea of being a great father. It's fun watching him grow every day."
Pedroia enjoys fatherhood. The former MVP hustles home after baseball workouts just to spend time with Dylan and Kelli.
The 26-year-old second baseman may not always be a baseball player, but he will always be a father. And that makes Pedroia proud.
