Yawkey Way Store, The Souvenir Store and other sports memorabilia stores in Boston, beware. Red Sox officials are seeking approval to build a $750,000 retail shop near Fenway Park's Gate B and the Ted Williams statue, according to documents filed with the Boston Landmarks Commission, the Boston Herald reports.

Major League Baseball rules allow teams to create and sell certain types of products and keep all the profit. That’s why Smith College sports economist Andrew Zimbalist thinks such a move makes sense for the Red Sox.

“If Jon Lester throws a second no-hitter, the Sox could create a T-shirt to commemorate the event, sell it at their store and keep all the revenues,” Zimbalist told the Herald.

The Fenway Civic Association was not informed by the team about the team's potential expansion. However, Fenway Civic Association president William Richardson supports the idea.

“We like the idea of enlivening the streets around Fenway Park,” Richardson said.

The Landmarks Commission will review the proposal next week.
