According to Newsday, the Yankees considered signing the right-hander earlier this offseason. The team is no longer interested in the 42-year-old pitcher after their acquisition of pitcher Javier Vazquez last month.
Smoltz posted an 8.32 ERA in eight starts for the Red Sox last season. He was released by the Red Sox in August.
Following his release, Smoltz returned to the National League. The eight-time All-Star signed with the Cardinals and posted a 4.26 ERA in seven starts.
Smoltz remains a free agent, although the Mets are reportedly interested in the former Cy Young winner.
