There was some encouraging news out of Fort Myers on Monday, as Daisuke Matsuzaka made 50 throws and has no pain in his back, according to The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham.

The report said that Matsuzaka made 25 throws from 60 feet and 25 more from 90 feet and that the 29-year-old plans to have a similar workout each day for the next week or so.

"I had some hesitation going into it but I was able to throw without any discomfort, so I'm relieved," Matsuzaka said, according to the Globe. "For now, we'll see how I feel [Tuesday]. As long as I don't have any unusual soreness, I think [I need] probably another week of playing catch and then at that point I need to communicate with the trainers and decide what I will do."

Matsuzaka caused some concern among Red Sox fans when he told Japanese reporters that he was suffering back tightness and needed a break from throwing.
