Glen Davis, P.J. Brown Join Saints’ Super Bowl Celebration in New Orleans

Parades are a New Orleans tradition during Mardi Gras, but this year provided the city its first chance to host one of the Super Bowl victory variety.

Louisiana native Glen Davis loves a parade, and he and former Celtic P.J. Brown could not pass up the opportunity to attend the Saints’ victory parade in New Orleans this past week, the Boston Herald reports.

Davis had the opportunity to see a parade unlike any other.

“The crowd was so into it,” Davis told the Herald.

Coach Doc Rivers hoped the parade inspired the Celtics to work on having their own this year.

“I did think about that, and I’m glad our players were able to see it,” Rivers told the Herald. “Karma. So we’ve been able to see one this year, and now we have to get another.

“They’re experts at parades here [in New Orleans], just from my observation. That was as good a parade as I’ve ever seen — lighted floats. They already had the floats prepared for Mardi Gras, but that was really nice.”

As a member of the Celtics’ 2007-08 championship team, Davis understands victory parades, but says Boston’s and New Orleans’ celebrations are very different. 

“The cultures are just very different,” Davis told the Herald. “… In Boston the crowd was into it, too, but with all of the dancing and the ‘Who Dat, Who Dat,’ it was just very different.”

Rivers understands why Saints’ fans may have been happy to see Davis in attendance.

“They thought he was a float,” Rivers joked to the Herald. “Sorry, I couldn’t resist.”
