Lindsey Jacobellis Misses Out on Olympic Gold Again

Lindsey Jacobellis' hopes of redeeming herself after a costly mistake four years ago went by the wayside Tuesday afternoon when she was disqualified during her semifinal run of the women's snowboardcross in Vancouver.

The Stratton, Vt., native has cemented herself as the most dominant woman in the sport with six X Games gold medals, including the last three, and two world championships, but she is now 0-for-2 in her quest for Olympic gold.

In Turin back in 2006, Jacobellis had a nearly insurmountable lead in the gold-medal race but showboated on the final jump, fell and had to settle for silver.

This year, Jacobellis didn't even get that far. Early in her semifinal race, she lost her balance on a jump and failed to regain control before clipping one of the gates that marks the course’s outer boundary.

Canada's Maelle Ricker took the title in runaway fashion, giving the host nation its second gold of the Games. France's Deborah Anthonioz and Switzerland's Olivia Nobs took the silver and bronze, respectively.

Jacobellis won the consolation race to finish fifth overall.
