According to the New York Post, Mark Sanchez makes the Jets an appealing option to play an NFL game in Mexico next year.
The Cardinals and 49ers faced off in the most recent regular-season NFL game in Mexico nearly five years ago. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell thinks another NFL game in Mexico is good for the league.
“We would love to get back to Mexico,” Goodell told newyorkjets.com. “And what has to happen is you have to develop the right formula, where it’s good for our partners in Mexico, it’s good for the NFL, and we can continue to grow the game in Mexico. We know that there are millions of fans not only in Mexico but the Hispanic fans we have here in the States. It continues to grow rapidly. We would love to get back there.”
The Mexican-American quarterback Sanchez would appeal to a large audience in Mexico. The NFL’s dream matchup could include Sanchez and fellow Mexican-American quarterback Tony Romo.
The Jets will face the Cowboys during the 2011 regular season.
