Many Patriots fans will remember Ben Watson for his heroic catches in the waning minutes of New England's opening-week, Monday Night Football win over Buffalo last September.
And that may be one of the last memories they'll have of him in a Patriots uniform.
The tight end will hit the free-agent market on March 5 if he remains unsigned by the team, and the expectation is that he won't be signed, according to Boston.com.
Watson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told the Web site that he has "spoken with the team, and I anticipate he'll be a free agent."
Watson finished a disappointing 2009 with just 29 catches and 404 yards. Drafted by the Patriots in 2004, Watson's best year came in 2006, when he registered 49 receptions for 643 yards.
