The Celtics came away from last Thursday’s trading deadline with Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry, but Danny Ainge was after some bigger fish than that.
According to ESPN.com, Ainge looked to add players like Kevin Martin, Caron Butler and Amare Stoudemire.
“We did talk about getting Stoudemire,” Ainge told WEEI on Friday. “I got a sense [Phoenix wasn't] getting the things they wanted. I think they would have moved him, but I think they like Amare. He's a terrific player, and they didn't get what they wanted.”
While Butler ended up going to Dallas in the deal that really set off a week of trading, Stoudemire stayed in Phoenix despite offers from Cleveland and Miami. Martin went to the Rockets.
Ainge claimed that the media falsely reported a lot of deals he wasn’t working on while failing to pick up some of the ones he was. In the end, only one deal got done. Instead of getting a big man or a new starting two guard, the Celtics will welcome Robinson and Landry to the mix.
